Painting of the impressionist artist Paul Gauguin ‘Nafea Faa Ipoipo’ (translated as ‘When is the wedding’) that was created in 1892 became the most expensive artistic work in the world. According to the sources, it was sold for 300 million USD. It was informed by The New York Times with the reference to the insiders of the art market in Europe and the USA, as reported by the Ukrainian National News (hereafter, the UNN).
According to the information of the American media, this painting was sold from the private collection of 62-years old Swiss Rudolf Staehelin. Former owner does not disclose the price of the purchase. But, as informed by the specialized news agency, the painting was sold approximately for 300 million USD; it was bought by the organization ‘Qatar Museums’ which purchases artistic works for the museums of Emirates.
Currently this work of Paul Gauguin is placed in the exposition of the museum ‘Kunstmuseum’ in Basel where it has been for more than 50 years. After that it should have been sent for the exposition to Madrid and then to Washington. The valuable painting will be transferred to the owner in one year, precisely in January 2016.
