At the end of the last week Apple presented its new generation model iPad Air 2. Undoubtedly, it triggered interest of technically advanced part of mankind and fans of the Apple products. Despite of the long preliminary orders of this model, the most of the users will be awaiting for some time to receive it. The reason of it is a technology Apple SIM, so-called universal SIM-card. For instance, German telecommunication giant T-Mobile plans to bring a law suit to the court in order to oblige Apple to refuse from implementation of Apple SIM technology on the territory of Germany. It is supported by its main competitor Vodafone which also does not plan to allow the use of Apple SIM within its network.
For the moment Ipad Air 2 with technology Apple SIM as default is offered for use in the United States of America by the operators AT & T, Sprint, T-Mobile and EE in Great Britain. Without doubts, the list of countries and operators will be broader with time, because they understand well that by not supporting Apple SIM, they could lose their solvent subscribers. Advantages of technology of the universal SIM-card will be obvious for the users, as this technology allows changing a mobile operator in a real time. As regards the operators themselves, their doubts are comprehensive as well.
First, they cannot bind a client; second, they will be forced to adjust their policy in terms of prices and services in a way that no user would like to leave them for their competitors.
Also, technology will be highly appreciated by those users who travel a lot, as they will not have to buy a new SIM-card in every country and limit themselves in using services. As regards the Commonwealth of Independent States (SNG) countries, unfortunately none of them for this moment is ready for the technology Apple SIM. Today Apple has not yet installed Apple SIM in the devices of the Iphone of a new generation, but the plans are available since 2010. In the light of the news on start of serial production Apple SIM, the shares of Gemalto lost more than 10 % during one day. Dutch-French group of companies Gemalto produces chips that are used in SIM-cards.
