Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the first reading adopted the draft law amending certain laws of Ukraine related to the protection of information of the television and radio space of Ukraine (# 1317). 240 deputies out of 319 registered in the session hall voted for this law.

As informed earlier, on 29 December the Committee of Verkhovna Rada on the issues of culture and morality supported the draft law # 1317 related to the protection of the television and radio space of Ukraine from any form of propaganda used by the state-occupier. According to the Chairman of the aforementioned Committee and one of the authors of the draft law Nicolay Knyazhitskiy, many Ukrainian television channels continue broadcasting television series containing propaganda of army and law enforcement agencies of the enemy with whom Ukraine de-facto is in war. Draft law # 1317 provides setting precise criteria for defining audiovisual products (films and documentaries, series, etc.) that harms national security of Ukraine, namely, glorifies armed formations of the state-occupier; it also forbids public use of this products and sets punishment to the business entities ignoring the ban (charging fine in the amount from 10 to 50 of minimum salaries for every case of distribution (showing). Norms of the draft law do not cover films that were produced before 1991. Special group of the Ministry of Culture will define which audiovisual products match the above-mentioned criteria, while the National Council on issues of television and radio broadcasting will provide monitoring compliance with the law.
